At Computex 2025, computing giant Acer announced its first wearable, the FreeSense Smart Ring, a competitively-priced health tracker with no subscription fee.

In a market where other smart rings can runup to$500 and have features locked behind subscription models, Acer's FreeSense ring will be priced between$199 and$250 -- a competitive option for consumers who don't need to pore over complex health metrics.

The ring uses its own app, compatible with both iOS and Android, to track the most commonly sought-after metrics: heart rate, heart rate variability, blood oxygen levels, and, of course, sleep quality. Like other smart rings, the FreeSense uses AI-powered algorithms to find trends in biometric readings.

A handful of smart rings have been released over the last few years, many of them with rather niche features. Part of the budget-conscious pricing comes from the ring's straightforward list of features, which forego more specific metrics like women's health and hormonal tracking found in the Evie Ring, or behavioral suggestions, like when the Ultrahuman Ring Air tells you your "stimulant permissible window" has closed (the precise time you should stop drinking coffee during the day).

By contrast, Acer's ring is more essential, sticking to the features most consumers are concerned about and making the device what Acer calls a practical daily wellness companion.

The ring itself comes in two colorways: matte rose gold and glossy black. Both are constructed of titanium alloy with a PVD coating. Acer offers seven sizes altogether, which is not as extensive a range as other premium rings (the Oura Ring 4 goes from size 4 to 15), but covers the bases for the most common ring sizes.

In terms of durability, the FreeSense is IP68 and 5 ATM rated, meaning it's water resistant in fresh water for up to 30 minutes, and can withstand water pressure equivalent to a depth of 50 meters.

Regarding the pricing, Acer said that it's still in flux (likely due to tariffs) -- which is why the company lists a range instead of an exact number. Even at the high end of that range, however, it's still a competitive price since there is no subscription fee associated with the device. Availability is slated for later in 2025, likely not until after the summer.
